The only catch is that once you buy a weapon, perk, or killstreak, there’s no going back. It basically allows you to sculpt your style of play however you’d like. When you level up you’re handed 1,000 CoD Points that you can spend on whatever you please. The system itself is overwhelming at first, especially if you’re totally new to Call of Duty, but once you get your head around the CoD Points mechanic it’s actually pretty cool. Earning experience points and leveling up now handles macro stuff like unlocking more custom class slots, Create-A-Class, new modes to play, and the availability of certain weapons and bonuses for “purchase.” Everything else (weapons, perks, killstreak bonuses, emblems, different colors for your targeting reticule) is bought with CoD Points. The characters are well-crafted and the plot rarely disappoints. Despite these issues, I really enjoyed the story that the campaign presents and I think it’s the best of the series. The mission never tells you what to actually do and even misdirects you. No one else in the office ran into that one, but everyone who’d played Black Ops has run into a major design issue at the Battle of Khe Sanh. There are also a few design flaws and annoyances, not least of all was a game-ending bug in the first level that made me restart the entire mission. I once watched a friendly shoot the back of an armored car that he was using for cover for a solid 20 seconds. Both friendly and enemy soldiers behave like fools for most of the campaign. The artificial intelligence of both your friendly soldiers and the enemies you face is pretty poor. I tried to not pull back on the flight stick when the game told me to, just to see if there was any other alternative to taking off, but the Blackbird lifted off on its own. For example, he extended citizenship to people in Gaul and even recruited new senators from beyond the borders of Italy. ![]() Caesar’s authoritarian rule threatened to reboot the systems of privilege and nepotism that senators had long enjoyed. The assassination of Julius Caesar aimed to protect the Republic from disintegration. Ultimately, they sought to prevent his becoming a dictator for life, to preserve the Roman Republic, and to enact personal vengeance against a man who wronged them. The longevity of Caesar’s proposed rule prompted a group of senators to rise up against him. Even if Rome were to emerge intact after his tenure, the power of the consuls, senators, and elected officials in the Republic would be diminished. When elected “dictator for life” by the senate, fears swirled that Caesar would have too much power. When Caesar crossed the Rubicon River with an army in 49 BCE, he emulated the Roman general Sulla who returned to Rome from civil war to serve as dictator. Together, Cassius and Brutus convinced more senators to partake so that the murder would be seen as an act of patriotism rather than revenge. It wasn't difficult to persuade Brutus, as he was proud of his aristocratic heritage and felt Caesar had gone too far by naming himself dictator of Rome. A believer in traditional Republican values, Cassius’s sense of duty to the Republic boiled over, and he convinced Brutus to join the assassination. Despite the formal reconciliation, Caesar’s authoritarian ways and callous disregard for the Senate angered them. Following their loss, they reconciled with Caesar and were given comfortable arrangements within the Republic. The two fought on behalf of Pompey in the Battle at Pharsalus. Approximately 50 to 60 senators attacked Caesar with their daggers drawn. Spearheaded by the senators Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus, the assassination took place in the debating chamber of the Theatre of Pompey. Just two months later, on March 15, the infamous ides of March, Caesar’s assassination would rattle the Republic.
